The CSI Abbs Memorial Church Parassala, situated in Cheruvarakonam, is one of the oldest and biggest churches in the Diocese of South Kerala of the Church of South India. The mission was founded when Rev. William Tobias Ringeltaube kindled the torch at Mylaudy in April 1806, blazing into an unquenchable flame throughout South Travancore.
Rev. Charles Mead and Rev. John Abbs took charge at Cheruvarakonam, the headquarters of the Parassala Mission. In 1955, the Church Committee renamed it 'CSI Abbs Memorial Church Parassala'. The present beautiful church building was dedicated in November 1961 by the Most Rev. A.H. Legg.
Join us for worship, prayer, and fellowship every week. All are warmly welcome at CSI Abbs Memorial Church Parassala.
The zeal to serve Lord Jesus brought Rev. William Tobias Ringle Tobias to South India as a Missionary of the LMS. The torch kindled by him at Mylaudy in April 1806, blazed into an unquenchable flame throughout South Travancore. Following him, LMS Missionaries Rev. Charles Mead and Rev. John Abbs took charge of the ministry at Cheruvarakonam, the headquarters of the Parassala Mission. Later Rev. Samuel Mateer, Rev. P. Newport, Rev. James Emlyn, Rev. Joshua Knowls, Rev. A.T. Foster etc laboured here. The Christian congregation at Cheruvarakonam was earlier known as ‘Pareychaley Church’ (Parassala Church), ‘The London Mission Pastorate Church, Parassala’ and ‘Golden Jubilee Memorial Church, Parassala’. In 1955, the Church Committee renamed the church as ‘CSI Abbs Memorial Church Parassala’.
The CSI Abbs Memorial Church Parassala is one of the oldest and biggest churches in the Diocese of South Kerala of the Church of South India. The present church building was dedicated in November 1961 by the Most Rev. A.H. Legg. For the completion of this present beautiful church and the German automatic Electric Bell, the congregation owes a great deal to Rt. Rev. Dr. Samuel Amirtham, the then Pastor of AMC. Rev. S. David Sylum, Rev. G. Ebenezer, Rev. Paul Nesamoni, Rev. J.A. Jacob, Rev. Y. Robinson, Rev. J.V. Thilaka Dhas, Rev. Dr. Nehemiah Thomson, Rt. Rev. M.I. Kesari, Rev. K.M. Devaraj, Rev. D. Kesari etc. served the Church as Pastors in the earlier years. Following them, many Pastors and Evangelists ministered here.
Rev. C. Selvamony is the present Senior Pastor. Rev. Salin T Johnson serve as associate Pastors and Rev. G Santhosh (Tamil Pastor). Mr. S. Vino Daniel (Secretary), Mr. Anoop J.G. (Accountant), Sri. Sylum (Sexton), Dr. Jeen Stud (Choir Master), Mr. R.K. Vinod (Electrician), Mr. Alexin Devadas (in charge of displaying the order of service on screen) church committee members etc. serve the church, contributing to its growth and spiritual life.
We thank God Almighty for this unfailing grace and faithfulness that led our church throughout the yester years. May this 216th Church Day be a time of thanksgiving and renewal, as we continue to grow together in faith and fellowship. Let us remain steadfast in His calling, united in Spirit and faithful in fulfilling the mission of the Church.
Let us give thanks to the Lord who remembered us in our low estate. His love endures forever. The church is built on Christ unshakable, undefeatable, and eternal. Let not the gates of hell prevail against the Church (Matt. 16:18).
Bishop Dr. Samuel Amirtham was God’s gift to the Indian Church and the Christendom, who lived ahead of his times. He was a man of ‘rare courage’ and ‘rare hope’. His zeal for the Gospel and the deep concern for the Poor were outstanding. His era of service was a glorious one – all at AMC, TTS, UTC, SKD, CSI, WCC etc. There was a touch of modernity in everything he does. The immense contributions of Bishop Sam for the upliftment of the marginalized, for the growth of the Church and Diocese, and the wider ecumenical movement will remain a great witness to his exemplary leadership, and will be a great inspiration for generations to come. His dedicated services have left behind an indelible mark of edification.
‘The most influential people, the ones who leave behind incredible legacies, will live on in the hearts of people they touch’.
Though Bishop Sam Amirtham cannot be replaced, the far reaching legacy he left will surely remain and continue throughout generations
